The benefits of evening primrose oil supplements are something I take for my health and have done for several years now.
I first found out about taking this supplement in my early 20’s. I read an article in a trashy magazine one day on EPO for larger breasts.
It said, taking evening primrose oil (EPO) for a time will help improve bust size.
As I was a small busted woman and yearned for the day my breasts would just naturally enlarge on their own. I, of course, bolted out the door to buy my first bottle (1).
Did my breasts enlarge? Sadly, no, they did not, fortunately with age comes acceptance of one’s body and despite the fact, my breasts did not grow bigger. I am continuing to this day to take EPO.
The benefits of evening primrose oil and fenugreek are two supplements often marketed as being able to increase breast growth.
EPO uses are continually touted, as the answer for helping with many health problems. One, in particular, is breast pain (2).
There is, of course, no scientific evidence primrose oil can help with breast pain. In fact, there is not enough evidence to support the use primrose oil being able to help any of the health problems, it is marketed for (3).
Some of the health claims made for this oil are; its ability to help fight cancer, heart disease and help the body fight the production of chemicals that cause inflammation. Once again, no proof.
Women who suffer from endometriosis may find evening primrose oil a help. Um, yep you guessed it, no proof!
Including the benefits of evening primrose oil and exercise can help the body burn fat. Again, I could find no evidence this is the case, however, it does not mean, it is not the case!
Studies are small or not studied extensively (4).
There is a lot of advertising and marketing on EPO. There are some amazing health claims made, taking this supplement can do for the body.
It is hard not to believe some of the convincing websites around. Dedicated to the promise of no more menstrual pain, eczema or diabetes. And don’t forget larger breasts.
Proof or no proof, I believe, is neither here nor there. Everything you do for your health, such as including EPO as far as I am concerned is a help.
To this day, I continue to take EPO supplements, despite the mounting evidence against its use being of no use. I don’t care to believe that the benefits of evening primrose do nothing for me.
Of course, I am not advocating that taking this type of supplement will do wonders for you. I know some women who have tried it and found it doesn’t agree with them.
Common side effects are nausea, tummy upset, and headaches.
And I wouldn’t recommend taking EPO if you are on any medications, such as blood thinners. Always check with your Doctor first.
Benefits Of Evening Primrose And Omega 6
Evening primrose oil has Omega-6, I am sure you have heard about this fatty acid.
Everything you pick up these days to read on health will mention omega 6 or 3 fatty acids.
We need fatty acids to do things like, regulate insulin (hormone) use, heart function and help regulate moods. Great if you have mild depression.
Also known as EFA’s, they are an important addition, to help fight aging and stay looking younger. This is why we all want EFA’s right! I know I do.
Your body does not produce EFAs, you get this through diet or supplementation.
In addition to omega 6 fatty acids. The benefits of evening primrose contain linoleic acid and gamma-linoleic acid (GLA) (7).
Linoleic acid and gamma linoleic acid (GLA), are very important for a host of other health reasons. Especially good for those who are trying to lose weight.
Evening primrose oil also has vitamin E (8).

When out looking for the best supplement, look out for two things that are very important. The supplement is cold pressed and organic, this process helps to keep all the important essential nutrients.
Be careful as the herbal market is not strictly regulated. It is easy to end up with an inferior product which has drugs or other toxic metals (9).
There are so many EPO brands on the market, it is overwhelming. As with everything it seems, oh, the choices the choices!
Where to buy evening primrose oil: Online, Chemist, Health Food Outlets. The recommended amount to take is around 1 to 3 capsules daily, I usually take about 4 a day.
Whatever health problem you are experiencing if it is not helped by including the benefits of evening primrose. It doesn’t mean it is not contributing to your overall health is some way.
There is no scientific evidence, such as, to support evening primrose oil for eczema can help. Yet, I am sure there are many out there, who have had success (10).
When it comes to your skin, as I said earlier, I believe there is nothing better than EPO to help keep skin clear and keep up even skin tone. It will also help keep dry skin soft and smooth and help produce new skin cells.
For me, this is the perfect supplement and one worth the money. I regard the benefits of evening primrose as an essential beauty supplement.
I have read somewhere taking this particular supplement will help with hair growth, I can’t vouch for this. I can say that my hair is strong, healthy, shiny and just as thick as it was when I was younger.
So, perhaps evening primrose is a contributing factor along with all the other things I do for myself.
Evening Primrose Oil For Fertility
Evening primrose is often suggested as being able to help women fall pregnant.
It does this by increasing the quality of cervical mucus, needed to help the sperm swim freely through the cervix.
When a woman ovulates, her cervical mucus will increase and change in consistency. This mucus is very important, it helps the sperm stay alive for up to 5 days in the uterus and fallopian tube, enabling conception.
When you are researching on primrose oil in pregnancy, or plan on purchasing some. Be aware there are no scientific studies to back up any claims the benefits of evening primrose oil for fertility help.
If you are having trouble conceiving, you can try evening primrose oil along with other herbs and vitamins. Maybe visit a Chinese herbalist, and, of course, eat healthy foods. I can’t tell you this will work, but everything you do for yourself can help.
If you are feeling stressed about falling pregnant, then you are limiting your chances. This is the time to start meditating and adopt a more positive attitude.
