There are many causes of adult acne.
When I was in my late 20’s I suffered from acne and was devastated at what happened to my complexion. The 20’s and 30’s is the usual time a person can experience this. Although, many can and do go through it well into their 40’s and 50’s.
And if you suffered from acne in your teenage years, there is a chance you may get it again in your adult years.
My journey through the teenage years gave me barely a pimple. You can imagine my surprise when I noticed my smooth, clear skin sporting red angry-looking lumps and bumps.
At the time I was at a loss, I had no idea what to do about it. Or what were the causes of adult acne for me?
Immediately I ran to the nearest Doctor and she gave me a prescription for a pill to treat it. I had no idea what those pills were, I do know they did nothing for me.
What cleared up my acne, in the end, was the contraceptive pill. Of course, that was many years ago, and I don’t know if I would go down that road now if I were in the same place.
I did a bit of research on the subject when a friend asked me how to get rid of adult acne a natural way. Rather than taking the contraceptive pill.
Having been down that path already, I thought I would take a look at some of the causes of adult acne and ways to get rid of it. And hopefully, be able to help my friend.
This skin condition involves the sebaceous glands to become inflamed. These glands lie just under the skin and secrete an oil called sebum.
The pores on your skin give sebum a way to come to the skin’s surface. However, production of too much sebum will result in clogged pores due to dead skin cells, and hair follicles.
Once you experience clogged pores, it provides the perfect environment for bacteria. Inflammation, blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples will then develop. Over time, the buildup of sebum in the skin can result in acne.
Causes Of Adult Acne
One of the main causes of adult acne and one I feel was my problem all those years ago is chronic stress.
Chronic stress is a sure-fire way to give you skin problems. This happens because over time chronic stress will raise hormone levels and as a result increase sebum production in the skin.
And according to Dr. Jeannette Graf, a dermatologist. Women are also more likely to suffer from adult acne as it is often related to pregnancy, menopause, PMS and the menstrual cycle.

Your hormones can be to blame for an acne breakout and the more out of whack they are, the more breakouts you will have.
Unfortunately, in the case of hormones, there is not a lot you can do when it comes to topical treatments. There are plenty of supplements available to help balance hormones. It is a matter of finding the best one for you.
Hormone supplements with adaptogen herbs is a good start. Adaptogens will help reduce stress levels and balance out your hormones.
